This week we challenge you to create a self-care menu. This is a great activity to do with the youth in your life. Create the menu, decorate, and hang it up somewhere to be at the front of your minds. Another idea is to pick a specific time of day to dedicate to your self-care menu.

  • Need some ideas for your menu? Here is a list to get started -

  • Call or text someone you love

  • Drink a cup of tea or coffee

  • Spend quality time with friends or family

  • Journal about how you’re feeling

  • Take some deep breaths

  • Try learning something new

  • Write a letter to a loved one

  • Sit and be still for 10 minutes

  • Listen to your favorite music

  • Go for a long walk in nature

  • Cook or order in your favorite meal

  • Read a book

  • Do a digital detox

  • Go to your favorite place

  • Stretch

  • Read inspirational quotes

  • Get some sleep

  • Organize or rearrange your space

  • Exercise in a way that feels good for you

  • Write down 5 things you’re grateful for

Need even more ideas? Here's the list in it's entirety: https://eugenetherapy.com/article/50-self-care-ideas-for-a-bad-day/

We found a great activity for the whole family to participate in called "My Gifts". This activity can help you and your youth recognize and appreciate the talents, strengths, and positive traits you have.

1️⃣ The first step is identifying the gifts, traits and talents that everyone feels they have. These include qualities such as considerate, patient, creative, helpful etc

2️⃣ The second step is for everyone to share their traits and talents that they chose. Your child should discuss why they chose each one and give examples of how these qualities fit them.

3️⃣ Step Three is to hand out the gift box cutout (linked below). Have them cut along the dotted lines and arrange the box, then decorate it with their name, their favorite color(s), or any of the craft items they would like to use.

4️⃣ Lastly, invite everyone to fill their gift boxes with the pieces of paper they’ve chosen.

Explain that they can open the box to see all their unique gifts whenever they want to be reminded of all their great qualities!

Teen Lifeline shared a great activity that we want to highlight for this week's Self-Care Sunday! Who doesn't love a game of Bingo? This card is full of great tasks for promoting your teen's mental health. Start with three in a row but challenge them to see just how many they can accomplish. Take it a step further by doing it together as a whole family.

At some point this week introduce the youth in your life to Teen Lifeline for an extra layer of support in their life. "When a teen needs to talk, they often turn to a friend for support. That’s why Teen Lifeline trains teens to talk to other teens about their problems. Our peer to peer hotline gives them a safe place to connect with someone they can relate to."

📱Teen Lifeline is a free, confidential, anonymous hotline for teens. Peer Counselors are available by call or text from 3-9pm 24/7. Just call or text 602-248-8337
